South Vancouver Island Housing Society
Legion Manor Victoria is operated by the South Vancouver Island Housing Society, which is a Not for Profit Society run by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of members from the seven different Royal Canadian Legions in the Greater Victoria area; part of the British Columbia / Yukon Command of the Royal Canadian Legion. The zone encompasses all of Southern Vancouver Island, including Pender and Mayne Island. It is very active, with 16 branches boasting over 10,000 members.
It is a compassionate organization that cares about our veterans, youth and community. All branches welcome visitors and newcomers as guests or members. Whether your interest is in dancing, games, darts, cribbage, horseshoes, sports, BBQ dinners, or just a friendly atmosphere and camaraderie you will find it at "The Branch" of your choice.
Many of the different branches help to raise monies to assist in the operation of Legion Manor Victoria. Examples of the projects that have been financed by the various branches are a 70 inch television in our Living Room, new hardwood floors in our lobby and dining room as well as new linens, china and chairs for the dining room. Poppy fund donations have also helped in the repaving of portions of the walking trail around the perimeter of the property as well as refurbishment of our well used Sun Room which included new carpets and furniture.
Legion Manor was also able to purchase a 7 passenger van through the Poppy funds generous contributions. This enables Legion Manor to provide a vehicle which can transport residents to medical appointments throughout the Greater Victoria area at a nominal cost, when a volunteer is available.
